Here is how it works on our side of the water. Four to six times a year the Mint strikes a coin that will never be sold to the public. Not late, not re-released, not “back by popular demand.” Four hundred and fifty pieces, struck once, offered only to members, and then the die retires to the bottom of a very deep drawer.
